You can still get a repeatable “detail” layout in Elementor Free—just not fully automated the way Pro’s Theme Builder does. The trick is to build your post‐detail layout once, save it as an Elementor Section Template, and then load that template every time you create a new post. Here’s the simplest, beginner‑friendly workflow:
1. Create a “Detail” Section in Any Post
- Go to Posts → Add New.
- Publish the (blank) post as a draft so you can edit it with Elementor.
- Click Edit with Elementor. You’re now in Elementor’s editor for this single post. We’re going to build the shell of your detail page here:
- Featured Image
- Drag in an Image widget up top.
- Click the little database icon next to “Image” and pick Featured Image.
- Post Title
- Drag a Heading widget underneath.
- Click its database icon and choose Post Title.
- Post Meta (author, date)
- Drag a Text Editor widget below the title.
- In its editor, click the database icon and pick Post Info → Byline (or manually type “By [Author] on [Date]” then replace those with the dynamic tags).
- Post Content
- Drag a Text Editor widget—or better, the Post Content widget if you have it (some Elementor Free installs do)—into the canvas.
- If you don’t see a Post Content widget, drag a Text Editor and in its text area click the database icon → Post Content.
- Featured Image
2. Save That Section as a Re‑Usable Template
- Hover over the topmost section (the light-blue outline).
- Click the right‑click arrow → Save as Template.
- Give it a name like “Post Detail Shell” → Save.
3. Publish or Discard That Draft
You can now close Elementor. You won’t use this draft again, so you can delete it or just leave it unpublished.
4. Re‑Use the Template for Every New Post
- Add a new post (Posts → Add New).
- Publish as Draft and Edit with Elementor.
- Click the folder icon (Add Template) → My Templates → pick “Post Detail Shell” → Insert.
- All your widgets (featured image, title, meta, content area) will drop in exactly as you designed.
- Click into the Post Content widget (or Text Editor) and paste your article text there.
- Set your Featured Image, fill in the Title & Excerpt in the sidebar if needed.
- Publish.
Boom—you get the exact same detail layout every time, with no coding and no extra plugins.
Why This Works for Elementor Free
- Zero extra cost—you stick with Elementor Free.
- Total visual control—design in the familiar drag‑and‑drop canvas.
- One‑click reuse—your shell is just a template you insert in each post.
Pro‑Tip: If you later upgrade to Elementor Pro, you can replace this manual flow with the Theme Builder and simply assign a single template to all posts. But until then, this “save‑as‑template + insert” trick is the easiest way to keep your detail pages uniform and beginner‑friendly.
